Pain is built-in in this world; it is in the world’s nature and its sad realities. It is everywhere; it is something we cannot stay away from. We cannot avoid pain even if we try. And even if we do, ultimately in the end, particularly at the time of death, we are going to cry.
This world is also a world of opposites, of contrast, of differences. Because of this, we have reasons to rejoice for at least, there is light after darkness; the sun still shine even on a rainy day; and good things come out when evil passed away. Moreover, joy is the opposite of pain; therefore, we can conclude that there is happiness because there is torment; although after having said that, we have to consider that being in the world of contrast, our reason to rejoice is also our reason to grieve.
Love, which is also built-in in this world, is a very complex emotion and a source of great happiness. (And even love has an opposite meaning). Undoubtedly, Love being the source of extreme happiness is also the source of extreme pain. Who can blame those people who are reluctant to be in love; when most of the time, what is apparent and more remembered in the process of love and pain is the misery of those who fall in love? However, it is in our nature to love; as life without love is death itself, if not worse than death. In fact, for some individuals (including me): Life is not worth living without love. However, we should be careful even in choosing the person to whom we bestow our love; because choosing the wrong one is enough reason for us to suffer. Aside from the fact that there is a thing called lust, which is identical to love. And one must know the difference between love and lust. Because love is an overused and misunderstood word. And most of the time, we thought that lust, which is the opposite of love, is love.
It is natural for us to protect our loved ones and to shelter them from harm for that is the sign of our affection. Understandably, for people that we cared for, we are willing to sacrifice everything even our life. Although there are times when sacrificing for them is not even possible because we are not around when they really need us.
We are not in control, and our resources are very limited no matter how powerful we might be. Moreover, time, circumstances, forces of nature, (to name a few) are beyond in any man’s power and capacity to contend with. We cannot protect ourselves from these forces, as we cannot protect those people we loved. What more for the poverty-stricken people, sadly for them, even their basic needs for survival is already a strong might to deal with and sometimes even enough reason to die for.
A complex and stringent world we live in where everything has a price. And I find it strange and sad that because of advancement and progress even a man’s longing to be with his loved ones is a struggle and already a source of misery.
Technology, especially in the field of communication, works hard to come up with dimensional gadgets designed to cope up with the needs of man. However, it seems that advancement is not enough; for even in cyber realm, I saw and feel the pain of longing and separation. And it seems that distance is distance and no amount of superficial machines or gadgets could fill the space in between. Love indeed is so strong, so is the desire of lovers to unite with the ones they loved.
But would it make a difference if there is a loving person who love those people we cared for more than we do; and that loving person is so powerful and has the ability to continuously and simultaneously be present everywhere. And would it make a difference if that person is our well-wisher and dear most friend, our merciful master and loving father who already had given us so much, and from whom we can still ask anything. Although, we don't really have to ask Him for He knows our needs even before we know that there are such needs?
In addition, would it make a difference if He is an all-knowing person who knows the things of the past, the present, and the future; and who knows the nature, destiny, and the best for everyone? Moreover, what if, despite the things He already did and would still do for us, all He wants from us in return is to love Him, for only in doing so, we can truly understand the real meaning of love that originates from Him and only in loving Him, we can overcome pain and truly find Happiness. Would it make a difference? Moreover, would we not be able to find peace, or even joy, knowing that the person we love is safe in his mighty loving arms?

His love, which is based on freedom is for everyone; all we have to do is turn to Him and put our faith in Him. But for us to understand His ways and His mercy, we must truly know how to love. Unfortunately, even in pain, most of us do not know how nor want to neither avail the greatness of His mercy nor experience the amazing wonders of His love. -ArlenKalifuentes-11232010
NOTE: In songs, in movies and articles, in friend’s personal stories, love and separation is predominant and a predicament of a modern man; and this piece of writings is my humble effort to lessen their agony. This article is for them; as I was prompted to write this item because of a newly found friend who is sorrowful because of separation from his loved ones. I myself a victim of this cruel world’s sad reality; and while I am watching him and hearing him talk, I saw and heard my pain. Love and separation is one of my life’s unsolved puzzles that I tried but failed to forget; and I thought that it will remain unexplained until I found some answers.
